Everybody has pondered about “the right way” to water their lawn. If you have asked anybody about it, you have probably already recieved as many conflicting answers as the number of people you have asked.

One of the more frequent questions we get asked is;

“Do I need to water my lawn?”

In Kansas City, the answer is almost always yes, but when and why you water is as important a question as whether to or not. We often go through dry or drought like conditions in the months of July and August in Kansas City. According to NORA the average 12 month rainfall is 38.9”.

The best time to water a lawn is early morning between 4:00 to 6:00 am.

Watering between 4:00-6:00 am is an ideal time for a few of reasons. First, there is less demand for water during this time and so water pressure is generally higher, making your sprinkler system its most effective. Secondly, the heat of the day is usually at its lowest during this time, so watering then will ensure that you are minimizing your water loss from evaporation.

If you cannot do early morning you might alternately try to water in the evening time, around 7:00 – 9:00 pm. It is not as ideal as an early morning watering schedule; watering then will still avoid the hottest parts of the day, but can leave the grass wet during the night which could make it more prone to fungus.

Getting your perfect lawn and watering it doesn’t have to be inconvenient, lets talk about how a computer controlled automated irrigation system installed by Dynamic Earth can do the heavy lifting at 4 am for you. You can rest assured that your lawn is being cared for, and sleep like a baby all the while.
